Summary of Purpose
Each of the college wide Academic Divisions is assigned an Academic Dean who leads by coordination and collaboration, working closely as a Deans’ Cabinet to ensure common practices and procedures. The primary responsibilities of the Dean are to support the academic mission and purposes of the College and serve as academic leaders. The Academic Deans supervise departments, faculty, and staff in college wide divisions under a collective bargaining agreement and supervise other employees working under collective bargaining agreements. This position is expected to work in a multi-cultural diverse working environment.
Typical Duties
This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required:
1. Collaborates with faculty to develop, deliver, and monitor credit and non-credit instruction and services that are learner-centered.
2. Facilitates implementation of policies, procedures, and objectives at the college level under the direction of the Office of the Provost.
3. Represents administrative views and needs on college wide committees pertaining to a wide variety of academic issues.
4. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of program development,
curriculum development, curriculum review, and student outcomes assessment.
5. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of divisional plans.
6. Reviews and approve departmental budgets; monitors expenditures.
7. Supervises faculty and staff; conducts performance evaluations.
8. Represent the College in appropriate community and professional organizations.
9. Participates in the development and implementation of college wide policies, procedures, and objectives; coordinates work with other Deans and the Office of the Provost.
10. Mediates academic conflicts and resolve issues involving faculty, staff, and students; meets with students to discuss academic problems/complaints and assists in devising equitable responses and solutions.
11. Engages in shared governance pursuant to labor agreements, College policy, and applicable laws.
12. Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience
EDUCATION:
Master’s degree in a discipline within Social Sciences; Ph.D. in a discipline
within Social Sciences preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years full-time teaching experience/full-time faculty experience at
a community college and/or lower division of a four-year college or
university and two (2) years of academic administration experience. In lieu
of full-time teaching experience/full-time faculty experience, demonstrated
experience in the following areas: a minimum of two (2) years teaching
experience (part-time teaching equated), assessment of student learning,
participatory governance, curriculum review and curriculum development
and at least two (2) years academic administration experience, or a
combined total of six (6) or more years of full-time teaching/full-time
faculty experience and academic administration, preferably in a community
college. Administrative work may include department chair experience.
